Lange's characteristically detailed caption on the verso reads: '18639C--Small cotton farm, Kern County, California. The farmer keep accounts. Each picker weighs his sack of cotton. In this case, the sack weighs approximately 50 lbs. Took 3 hours to pick; for which, on the basis of 75 cents per 100 lbs., he will be paid 38 cents, November 1938.'
